Ashdown Forest

This is at the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Originally a deer hunting forest in Norman times, Ashdown Forest is now one of the largest free public access spaces in the South East. It is a great place for walking and enjoying spectacular views over the Sussex countryside and is known the world over as the 'home' of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Bluebell Railway

ravelling between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, Bluebell Railway is one of the first preserved heritage lines in the UK. The company has a large collection of vintage steam locomotives and carriages and uses some of them to recreate journeys from 1880s through to the 1960s. Customers can enjoy an all-day travel on the 22-mile route, still looking the way they had in the past. Popular with film and TV, the railway has been featured in shows like Downton Abbey, Muppets Most Wanted and Churchill's Secret.

Hever Castle

Spanning more than 700 years, the history of Hever Castle is rich and varied. The original medieval defensive castle, with its gatehouse and walled bailey, was built in 1270 and later became the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, King Henry VIII’s second wife. Well worth a visit for those who enjoy a look back in time.

Birling Gap & The Seven Sisters

For those that enjoy coastal walking there are not many better than here. Get your camera at the ready for the stunning cliffs and countryside. Be warned though you will earn your cream tea as there are big hills and it can get very windy making it a challenging walk.

Local Wineries

The Sussex land scape now has almost as many wineries as breweries, with vines popping up everywhere. The best local ones to that offer visits and tours are Downsview Vineyard, Blue Bell Estates and Rathfinny.
